Retained Earnings
Retained earnings is the amount of profits generated by the business after it has paid out dividends to its shareholders. A business generates earnings that can be positive (profits) or negative (losses).
A balance sheet figure shown under the heading retained earnings is the sum of all profits retained since the company's inception less any dividends paid out to shareholders.
